He may be a good lookin’ dog, but…

But, we’ve been an unsettled household this evening. Dear old Nimbus is fumigating us out of house and home. We can’t escape his foul odors, and it’s reached a breaking point.

Sweet little Nimbus.

Don’t try to use those chocolate eyes to woo me, buddy.

We’ve turned on every fan, lit matches in the rooms he blesses, and have tried every way to escape him.

He just loves us too much… and follows us from room to room.

Oh, Nim.

Topsy-turvy Baby Meade, our stroller of choice, and a dairy-free quiche recipe.

Kris and I spent our second weekend in a row at Ocean Isle with my parents, and on our way home from the beach today, Baby Meade tumbled, bumbled, and kicked his/her way around my belly for the major part of 2 hours!  Plus, it probably didn’t help that Kris and I stopped in Gallivants Ferry at the General Store for boiled peanuts and glass-bottled Sun Drop.  Oh. My. Stars.  It was worth it.

We picked Nimbus up from the country and he is flat exhausted, except we bought him a new Chuck It ball today.  So he’s prancing around the backyard like the King of Persia with his new prize.  He couldn’t be a happier dog.

This evening, we visited Babies ‘R’ Us, and I’m not going to lie, we were totally disappointed with the selection.  It was like a glorified Big Lots.  So we drove over to Target and were much more impressed with the selection there – but we’re still being super picky about our stroller.  I think we’re going to invest in a used Bugaboo Cameleon stroller off of eBay.

Not sure what color we’ll get… probably something neutral so that if Baby Meade is a boy and Baby Meade #2 is a girl, and vice versa, they’ll both be able to use it.

I need to use up some of the items in our pantry, and as you know, we are a dairy-free home.  Here’s the quiche recipe that I’m using tonight!

Dairy-free Broccoli & Onion Quiche

(Note: This recipe makes enough to fill two 9” frozen deep pie crusts)

Ingredients:
- 2 frozen deep 9” pie shells
- 1 small red onion, chopped
- 4 broccoli spears, chopped (I thawed and chopped the frozen kind)
- 2 bags of veggie shreds (I used one mozzarella-flavored and one cheddar-flavored)
- 3 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
- 5 eggs
- 1 1/2 cups of soy milk
- salt and pepper to taste

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In one bowl, mix together the flour and veggie shreds. In another bowl, mix together the eggs, milk, onion, and broccoli. Pour the flour and veggie shred mixture into the egg mixture, and combine well. Add salt and pepper to taste (I used a good bit of pepper). Divide mixture between the two pie shells (and then I grated a little more pepper and sprinkled a little more kosher salt onto the tops of the quiches).

Bake at 350 degrees for 60 – 70 minutes.

I love quiche because you literally can use ANYTHING that you have in your pantry in them. Instead of the broccoli and onion, you could use bacon, diced tomatoes, and basil. Or, you could use ham and spinach. The possibilities are infinite. Also, if you are a dairy-eating home, substitute the soy milk for half and half or milk and the veggie shreds for your favorite cheese.

Bon appetit!

A contraction.

17 weeks pregnant!

Yes, you’re reading correctly.  I had a Braxton-Hicks contraction last night.  Just one… but it’s enough to mess with your mind.

The contraction was followed by some sharp jabs in my abdomen for the rest of the evening and into the morning.  So I called the doc.  And they called me in.  And it was nothing more than this bebeh growing at a furious rate and my ligaments stretching!  The technical term is “round ligament pain,” but I call it “a really great way to freak a first time mother out.”

At least I got to hear the wonderful, beautiful, amazing heartbeat.  I can’t wait to give this child a name next week.

Speaking of, welcome to Week 17!  Kris and I took a little picture (the one above) this morning to remember the last day I’ll be able to wear this button-down for a while.  After I ate lunch, the buttons pulled a bit too much for my liking, so it will be lovingly placed into the box-of-things-I-can-no-longer-wear.

I also had my toes painted a beautiful shade of pink after work.

Ooh!  If you’ve never made fried pork chops, you HAVE TO try the Pioneer Woman’s recipe.  The only thing I changed was that I added a tablespoon of cornmeal to the mix.  YUM.  Plus, I used our cast iron skillet for the first time.  I know, I know, but it’s been at my parents’ house in storage and I just picked it up.  We have very little storage at our house!

17 Weeks

Total weight gain: Still holding steady. I haven’t gained any weight since last week.

How big is baby? Baby Meade is the size of a turnip!

Milestones: Baby Meade has been moving a lot! Actually, he/she really likes Jay Z… haha.

Maternity clothes: I am now quickly growing out of some of my pre-pregnancy tops. It’s a little sad to see them put away.

Sleep: I’ve been sleeping GREAT and only getting up twice to go to the bathroom in the night! That’s a huge milestone.

Movement: Like I said… It’s a hard knock life. (hahahahaha)

Food cravings: Tonight, I had a bloomin’ onion with their horseradish sauce at Outback and it was divine. I also had chicken chili at lunch, which was great and spicy. I’m liking stuff with a little kick!

Belly button in or out? Still in, thank goodness.

What I miss: I still miss wine. I don’t think that will go away. And I also miss medium to medium-well steaks.

Best moment this week: Floating in the canal in Ocean Isle with Kris. It was the most relaxed I’ve been in a long time. Then… the reunion with Nimbus. It’s so sweet. Speaking of the Beagle Bull…

Nimbus after his weekend with Diego and Chula.

The Lord has so richly blessed our lives. If there’s ever something that I can pray for you about, please let me know! You can email me at whitney@themeadefeed.com.

Have a fabulous weekend!

Bat Dog

My dog has bat-like sense. Sonar skills.

If you blind-folded him at midnight, he would still catch the ball in only one bounce… perhaps even out of the air.

I’m telling you, it is the reason for his existence.

PS – My husband wanted me to make sure that he receives the photo credit.

Pregnancy Dreams

Image via Retro-housewife.com

So they said that I’d have wacky dreams.  But I never knew that I would be TIRED from dreaming!  I seriously have these vivid dreams all night long – I’ve actually prayed a few nights that the Lord would take my dreams away since I wasn’t getting much rest – but I had this one dream last night that was completely overboard.

In my dream, I was invited to the White House, but it wasn’t the White House.  It was actually a castle of sorts (think like – a more chic Hogwarts with white christmas lights in all of the trees).  One of the higher-ups who works at my organization was in the dream, and she was an assistant to the President.  So she takes me on a tour of the White House, and then she walks me into this room that looks like it was decorated by my grandmother in 1973.  There is this gorgeous vintage forest green lacquered desk, and on top of the desk, ALL of Jackie Kennedy’s jewels are displayed with this huge vanity mirror.  From her rings to her earrings to her brooches to her bracelets and necklaces.  The guide says, “Try it on!”  I sit down at the desk, and I start playing in the jewelry and I’M CRYING, PEOPLE.  In my dream, I am crying over Jackie O’s jewelry.

Then, I woke up and had to use the restroom for the fifth time last night.  DANG IT!  I wanted the dream to last longer!

And oh yeah, just in case you’ve been missing him…

Another year!

Well friends, I renewed my hosting for another year.  Looks like the Meade Feed won’t be going anywhere for a while!

There’s someone in my life that I feel like you need to get to know a little bit more.  His name is Nimbus.  And he is a Beagle Bull (aka a Beagle/Pit Bull/Brown dog).

Here are some facts about Nimbus:

  • Nimbus hates water and will only drink it if he has to (same goes with baths and FORGET about swimming)
  • Nimbus has terrible gas.  I mean, he is notorious for his bad gas (I am being struck by it as I type, no lie.  He’s on the couch beside me.)
  • Nimbus is obsessed with his toy ball.  It’s the first thing he grabs when we let him outside and the last thing he drops before he comes inside.  When we walk out, he will shove it through the fence which forces us to throw it to him, and he will catch it with no bounce.  He is a freak.
  • Nimbus’s best friend is my parents’ German Shepherd named Diego.  We can’t say Diego’s name out loud – we have to spell it – because Nimbus will spaz out and bark and try to run to the car to go to the country to see Diego.  He’s learning Chula’s name now… it doesn’t get the same reaction yet, but it’s coming.
  • Nimbus was the first dog we picked up out of the litter.  We never put him down.
  • Nimbus likes to S T R E T C H when I let him out of his kennel in the morning.  Then, he puts his little noggin between my feet and I rub his ears for a while before I put him outside.  Lately, I’ve let him get in the bed to hang out with Kris while I shower.
  • Nimbus has many nicknames.  Nimbus-noodle, Noodle, Nim-noodle, Puppapia, Rattatouie, Nim, Nimbunny, and Nimbus Meade (not really a nickname, but I call him by his whole name at least once a day).
  • Nimbus has a nighttime routine.  He sleeps on his mat in our den while we watch TV at night, then Kris goes and gets ready for bed.  Then, he gets in bed with Kris (ALWAYS ON MY SPOT, stealing my cold) while I get ready for bed.  Then I have to start the process of moving him so that I can crawl in.  AKA Nimbus forces his entire body weight against me and refuses to move.  Then he gets mad and gets down.  Then I get settled, and call him back to our room, apologize, and he proceeds to circle around and lay on my legs.  Mind you… this is every. night.
  • Nimbus has this sound that he makes in the evenings while we are relaxing when he hears noises outside.  It sounds like a growl/grumble, so we call it the Turkey Gobble.  Kris refers to Nimbus as the “Gobbla” during this time.

If you’re not a dog person, you’re probably like, wow, this lady is obsessed with her dog.  We don’t have children yet, so he is our child.  We love our dog so much and I’m glad that I get to share him with you!  He’s a funny little character… definitely one of a kind.

Nimbus and me on the first day we got him! October 2008

Look. at. that. snout.

Kris and Nimbus on his first day home.

Growing up to be a strong little turd.

Can't you see the Pit Bull in his stance... but look at that Beagle face!

One of his adolescent photos. I'd say he was about the equivalent of a 13-year-old boy here.

Hey Nimbus boy!

He hearts sticks.

His first day on the beach!

Nimbus ALWAYS wants to be with people.

He also ADORES his backyard.

And he always wants to be outside. "Please Mom? Can't I go outside?"

If he wore a pedometer…

… he would clock in 30+ miles a day, I betcha.

There are two switches on ol’ Nimbus Meade.

On…

and off.

The Regal Beagle.

HAPPY THURSDAY! I miss you all. I have been coming home from work this week, putting on my PJ’s, maybe fixing dinner, and then falling asleep on the couch at 9. We had Laurie Beth and Hugh over for dinner on Tuesday and I almost fell asleep chatting with LB before dinner. I was a pitiful sight.

I am really loving the last of this cold weather that we’re getting now. I am sad to see Spring approach. I love the cold weather and bundling up in coats, tights, and scarves, and I have a feeling that I’m going to have to really look for some work clothes bargains for the coming months. I don’t have many “business professional” warm-weather outfits. It’s hard to do in South Carolina because it is BLAZIN’ HOT starting in, oh…April.

Hope that you have a fabulous Friday. Glory! It’s almost the weekend!

Your indulgent Nimbus Meade shot of the day.

And PS.

When did I get so old that my favorite time of the day is when I can put my PJs on?

(If you’re wondering, the time is 5:23PM. Totally legit. You see, I think about it this way. In college, I didn’t get up until 10AM which means I was only in street clothes for about 11 hours every day. Now, I get up at 6:30AM and I’m in street clothes for 11 hours PLUS I’m in heels and stockings. So that totally trumps the college wardrobe and legitimizes getting into PJs upon arrival home from work.)
