Happy Easter, love the Meade fam!

I hope that you had just as wonderful of an Easter as we did.

We went church with my parents today – the church where Kris and I met – and it was simply wonderful.

We celebrated Christ’s resurrection from the dead – what a celebration!

Kris and my younger brother Marshall.

Afterward, we picked up Nimeroo and drove out to the country for lunch. It was delicious and the dogs frolicked all afternoon while we vegged like potatoes.

Now, Kris is fixing us spaghetti and I am relaxing! I love long weekends. I really did need this one to refuel.

Happy Spring! He is RISEN!

glimpses.

I just had one of those glimpses.

You know the one I’m talking about.

The one where you’re in your comfies, you’ve had a bit to eat, and the dishes are done.  You sit down on the couch next to your cuddled-up mutt (in the middle of a squirrel-chasing dream, I’m sure) and you can hear your husband talking to his life-long mentor on the phone in the next room.  You know he’s going to hang up the phone and be full, too, but in a different and great way.

And then you’re like… Lord, thank you for all of this.  Not the material and the personal stuff, but for making me complete in You.

I don’t know where you are tonight and what your circumstance is.  You may be single, living alone, and wondering when God is going to give you “everything.”  Sister, He already has given it to you.  He is teaching you something right where you are today that He wants you to use for your future.

You may be a stay-at-home mom and you chase children all day, wiping stuffy noses and trying to instill a passion for Christ into your babies – all while trying to be a wonderful example to them and be the “right” kind of parent.  Sister, you have such a special and amazing job.  Your children will call you blessed.

Or you may be just like me.  A newlywed, without kids, in this interesting and wonderful and curious life stage.  And I’m learning so much right now.

Satisfaction.

It’s an interesting thing.  Satisfaction is never quite attainable no matter how hard you try.  In my life, the only time I’m ever truly satisfied is when I’ve surrendered everything to the Lord, and it’s only a matter of time until my sin nature creeps back and I’m struggling with it again.

I often tell people that the hardest adjustment for me was not getting married, but learning to be an adult.  To balance money, work, and personal time, and to learn how to keep my desires for “stuff” at bay.  I’m still learning…

We’ve been watching a lot of coverage on the Haiti disaster and it’s really caused me to check my thoughts and feelings.  I’m in an uncomfortable place this month because of some not-normal expenses, the budget is tight.  That’s all it is… a tight budget.  And here these people are in Haiti, with their surroundings completely RAVAGED and they’re in the middle of debilitating mass chaos.

I think… my sin is just out of control.  How can I be unsatisfied with a tight budget while these hundreds of thousands of people have lost everything.  Every.  Thing.

I’m just thankful for my God who opens my eyes.  Teaches me.

And then forgives me for my sinful heart.

Germany in photos.

In 2007, Kris and I were just freshly dating. (You like that, freshly dating. For about 4 months. I already knew I wanted to marry him, and God told him that I was his wife on this trip.) We went to Germany for 16 days and taught kids how to speak English and how much Jesus loves them.

Do you see my husband (boyfriend) covering up the pentogram? HAHAHA

We are now Southern Baptists!

And this is our membership directory photo!

And this is our membership directory photo!

I never thought I’d type those words.  I’m still not a “denomination” person.  I am a Christian, who (as of today) happens to be a member of a Southern Baptist church.

I will tell you this: I always had pre-conceived notions of “Southern Baptists.”  Namely, really bad worship music and women with BIG hair. (BTW – our church has great music, but there is some big hair!  We do live in the South…)  But I was shocked to find out that my theological beliefs align most closely of all with the Southern Baptists’ and I am very happy to say that I’m a part of the denomination.

Here’s the deal, and I’m going to be completely candid with you about this. Kris and I have had a really tough year with “the church.”   We were burned by one, disappointed in another, and after encouragement from many mentors, have taken about 4 months’ rest from participating in anything else but attending Sunday morning services (and I did a Beth Moore study at our current church) so that we could find a new church home.  We found it…and it does feel like home!  The Lord has blessed us with amazing friends at the church and we look forward to growing our family there.  I am so excited!

In hopes that you’ll check it out too, we believe that in addition to our church’s teaching, we should continue to get nourishment from other places, so we do listen to Pastor Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill Church’s podcasts weekly.

Listen, there’s no perfect church.  And if you find one that says that it is, run in the opposite direction!  Just get plugged into a fellowship and do life with other believers.  We’re called to.  So no excuses!

Christmas-Christmas time is here…

What are YOU doing for Christmas?  We are heading to one of our favorite getaways, Moncks Corner, to spend Christmas with our BABY NIECES (my sweet little sugarplums!), our adorable baby sister Brielle that Kris’s parents adopted last year, my FABULOUS sister Sherie (she’s everything I could ever hope for in a sister-in-law), my funny brother-in-law Dale, Granny Johnson, and my in-laws, Rob and Louise.  I’m telling you… Kris and I have been blessed with the most amazing parents who love Jesus and love us.  I couldn’t ask for more!

I am looking forward to our annual Christmas Eve oyster roast… that South Carolina Lowcountry goodness!  I can’t wait to see those babies’ faces when they see their gifts from Santa.  But honestly, the thing I’m most excited about is celebrating the birth of our Savior.  It’s really neat to experience the different emotions that I feel as I grow older and walk through different stages of my relationship with Christ.  Right now, since I’m “newlywed” and Kris and I are making plans for expanding our family one day soon, God is teaching me through Mary’s experience of being Jesus’ mother.  I’ve never really thought about what it was like for Mary to be pregnant with Jesus.  Think about it.  We have hospitals.  Doctors.  Fetal monitors.  Epidurals.  Sterilization.  Weekly checkups at the OB/GYN.  Brochures galore about what to eat, what to drink, what not to eat, what not to drink.  Prego lady blogs.  Prego lady message boards.  The one rule… “DON’T GOOGLE ANYTHING!”

Mary didn’t have any of that.

So He’s just teaching me a lot right now, from a totally different viewpoint than I’ve ever experienced before.

Isn’t our God just incredible?

Biker Church Baptism

So Whitney, what did you do this weekend?

Oh, you know, just went to a Biker Church Baptism.

#1, I didn’t know that Biker Churches existed. #2, little did I know how amazing it was going to be. Our good friend Tommy Bolger is the new pastor at the Florence Biker Church and he asked Kris to shoot some video of the day. I came along for the ride (pun intended!) to grab some photographs.
