I LOVE THE FALL!

It is undoubtedly my favorite season, and I’d like to dedicate an entire blog post to the subject.

So when Kris and I woke up this morning, the temperature hadn’t broken 70 degrees.  You have to understand.  We have been living in a FURNACE this summer.  So to actually put on a cardigan to sit outside to sip coffee was a milestone in our year.  And, oh my, it was glorious.  We even spread out in the grass in the shade once the sun came up a little more just to revel in the lack of heat.

Thank you God for sweet relief!  I wore a long sleeved dress to church!

Okay.  On to Fall.  Even though I’d love to jump straight to CHRISTMAS!!!, I’m not going to do that because I feel like the Fall needs her own blog post.

One thing that I love to do is cook.  And eat.  And research recipes.  And look at pretty pictures of food and dream about how gloriously delicious said food would taste.  I guess you could say it’s a hobby of mine.  There’s nothing more fabulous than the change of the season and baking with yummy SPICES!!  But even bigger than that, I’d like to introduce the return of… (drumroll please, Dad):

YAY!  The Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks!  Now, I have yet to purchase one because I want it to be nice and chilly and I want to be wearing jeans and a sweater.  And I’d like to drink it outside.  I’m going to predict that this will happen in October, and I will be sure to let you know when it does.  I promise.

Another of my Fall staples is my hot apple cider.  Kris looks forward to it all year long – as do I – and I usually make it during our first fire pit evening of the season.  It’s a crock pot cider made with whole cinnamon sticks and whole cloves and allspice.  I’ll share the recipe in a few weeks!

Now, if you haven’t recognized my love for the Pioneer Woman’s cooking, … now you know.  Her food is the jam.  I make it like, 3 times a week.  Simple ingredients, a great use of spices, and it’s hearty.  Kris loves it.  We are happy campers.

The PW has some phenomenal recipes, but here are a few that I will be adding to my repertoire this Fall:

Dulce de Leche Coffee – You know we love coffee in this house, and this will be a yummy treat on a chilly evening!
Cinnamon Rolls – Is there anything better on a Saturday morning?
Pumpkin Spice Muffins with Cream Cheese Frosting – I feel like I need to start moving away from the sweets…
Spanish Green Beans – OKAY.  Much healthier than the above!
Roasted Carrots – YUM, and easy.

NOW PUT ON YOUR BOOTS LADIES.  It’s time to talk about that front porch.

I have a wreath made of natural twigs that I purchased from Hobby Lobby two years ago that I’ve switched up every year for some Fall goodness.  The first year, I hot-glued small pumpkins to the wreath and adorned it with a black bow for a “Halloween feel.”  Last year, I removed the pumpkins and just left the bow, which I then removed after Halloween.  This year, I’m going to use the same wreath, and find some new ribbon with Fall colors that will transition from Halloween to Thanksgiving.  I’m also going to use purple mums and orange pumpkins on the steps, and Kris likes to string white Christmas lights in a zig-zag pattern over our patio and inside of the Man Shed for some ambiance.

Our steps in October of 2009.

Are you getting excited yet?

How could we close this post without a mention of Fall fashion?  I feel like pictures speak more than words…

Ob. Sessed.

Have you seen the new Lands End Canvas collection?

It’s like old-school Gap before they decided to start using cheap materials and turned all Old Navy on us.

And it’s not terribly expensive!

Gosh, is fall here yet??

Fall goodies!

No doubt, it’s hot. And I’m still kind of grouchy… but I am SO EXCITED about the fall!

Not just because it’s my favorite season.

It’s because of cider, beautiful leaves, chilly temperatures, backyard fire pits, Clemson Tiger football, …

SCARVES, JEANS, LEATHER JACKETS, LONG-SLEEVES, AND BOOTS!

My favorite clothes ever. And boy are there some goodies out for the coming season! I understand that it won’t be fall in South Carolina until after Thanksgiving… but it’s still fun to dream.

Brown tights, a cute skirt, these shoes…

J.Crew Langford Oxfords

A great plaid button down, your favorite jeans, and this jacket…

J. Crew Velvet Ruby Jacket

I want this bag!!

I love AG jeans. They are perfect for girls with a little more… curve…

I took the plunge.

So I think it’s been a week since we’ve chatted about the baby bump swimsuit decision, and I’ll tell you. The belly has grown. And I’m just not comfortable “showing it off” in a bikini. So I dug through the (terrible and picked over) selection at Target this afternoon, and I purchased my first maternity swimsuits.

Selection one, RASTA MEETS SWIMWEAR. A black tankini top with rasta banding around the neckline. SUPER PRESH. But, the photo on the Target website is super unflattering and I don’t want to post it here.

Selection two, very prego-Bond girl. Black suit with bronze hardware.

So now we’re set for the sun ;)

Oh HAPPY HAPPY Saturday!

We are just really enjoying our Saturday!  I hope that you are too.  We woke up around 8AM and hopped in the car with Nimbus for a quick ride to Starbucks (windows down, of course.  The weather has been awesome).  Get this… I am finally enjoying a morning cup of coffee (HOORAY!), and the barista enthusiastically greeted Nimbus with a “Hello, gorgeous!”  We were shocked.  It was the first time he’s been called “gorgeous” by a stranger.  (Uh… of course his mother tells him that all of the time!)

We returned home, had a little devotional in Daniel and a long chat, and then headed over to our neighbors’ to watch Poolapalooza 2010 for a few minutes.

Kris had big plans of landscaping around the mailbox today, so he took off to Lowe’s while I got ready for a shopping date with my mom.

That’s right.  It’s MATERNITY CLOTHES TIME!

First, we decided to try to find “non-maternity” maternity clothes.  Belk has a TON of really bohemian, flowy tops and dresses, so I tried on a ton of stuff and walked out with some really great pieces that I’ll be able to wear through summer and well into fall.  I also got this fierce pair of pumps and some new flat sandals!

We also decided to venture down to Motherhood Maternity to see what they had to offer.  I was kind of torn about going to Motherhood because I wasn’t sure of the quality of the clothes, but we were able to find some awesome work pants and some summer shorts (SHORTS, can you believe it?  Me…in shorts?)  I also got some great, simple dresses that I can wear with hose and heels to work, or with sandals and funky jewelry for “play.”  Speaking of hose, we have to wear hosiery with our dress code at work and mine has literally been hurting me lately.  Even though I don’t have a huge bump yet, my tummy has definitely rounded and the tights were killing me.  So we invested in a couple of new pairs of maternity hose.  May not be that exciting to you… but my baby and my belly are saying thank you!

After our shopping trip, Mom dropped me off at the house and Kris and I have been straightening up.  My laundry has been OOC lately, and we had NO groceries, so I started on the clothes and Kris went to our favorite grocery store – whoop whoop, ALDI! – for our weeks’ supply.  He was amazed that he only had to spend $64.  That’s why I love the Aldi.

I hope that you have a great Memorial Day weekend and that you relax and take some time to rest in the Lord!  Love ya’ll.

The first maternity clothes post.

Are you tired of pregnancy posts yet? Is this turning into a Mom Blog? Who am I?

Can’t stop, won’t stop.

I’ve received some jam-up maternity hand-me-downs. And there is this one gorgeous dress that will be a perfect “transitional” piece. You know… when the bump first arrives until about 25ish weeks. Not when I’m 38 weeks and waddling.

So I pull it out of the closet this morning and I’m like, wow, I’d love to wear this today. It is so cute. So I hold it up to Kris and I’m like, “Does this look legit or does it look like I’m trying to wear maternity clothes too early?”

And he goes, “Looks like you’re trying to wear maternity clothes too early.”

DANG IT.

So anyway, Afton is supposed to arrive this weekend – YEAY!! LB and Hugh came over for dinner last night and she is about to burst. Yet she looks fabulous. A conundrum. We laid on the couch like pregnant women and chatted while Kris and Hugh played darts and talked about man stuff. It was a welcomed distraction from what I’ve been doing after work lately – sleeping.

And you know what I can’t stand right now? CHICKEN. It is about the nastiest thing I have ever heard of in my life. SO GROSS. Just thinking about it makes my skin crawl.

Okay folks. A weekend of working awaits me. And we’re going to see Guys & Dolls at the theatre!!

Oh and ps. I was never into Friends when it was on TV because I was like, 8 years old, but I just bought the first season on Apple TV and it’s wonderful. I love it. There’s nothing on TV like it anymore!

I’m about to turn 24. Yikes.

I turn 24 in less than one month.

Ohmaigah people.

I was having a conversation with a friend after work yesterday, and she was like, “I am a woman.  I mean, there is no ‘girl’ in this equation anymore.”  (Is it bad that I just had to Google how to spell the word “equation?”)

I have to wear pantyhose every day.

I get excited when I find 1950s wooden high chairs at antique stores.

I have a slight panic attack when my kitchen counters haven’t been wiped down and the living room throws aren’t neatly folded and placed in the “throw basket.”  (Yes, we have a throw basket.)

I am an adult.

Anyway, I’ll be reeling over that nugget for the next 21 days.

On to other lovely things… Springtime clothes!  I am loving Ann Taylor’s spring line.  It’s so chic.

Also, can we talk about these adorable cocktail rings from Forever 21? For LESS THAN FIVE BUCKS?!

in a charleston state of mind

i need to get out of this town.

in medical lingo… stat.

so kris and i are going to hit the road to charleston on saturday to escape for a few hours and i am so excited.

i need a downtown charleston fix like t-swift needs glittery couture.

i am most excited about hitting up urban outfitters for some springtime goods.  the thing about UO is that their stuff can be poorly made or pretty legit, but you can’t really tell online.  you need to see it in person.

plus shopping in an old theatre transformed into an emo clothing store is fun an puts you in the correct state of mind.

OH btw.  it’s superbowl weekend.  i am going to be a stereotypical married old person and make chili and snuggle on the couch with my dog and husband.  and i don’t even watch the game… i’m in it for the ADVERTISEMENTS!

(truthfully, aren’t most people?)

Childhood styles that I wish I could still rock (and not be mistaken for a weirdo or a raver.)

Jellies.

Smock dress. For real, I would wear this today.

…and braided pigtails, but I couldn’t find a great photo. Plus, something just tells me that braids don’t quite scream “professional.”
